Hiding Your Internet Activity

If you share your computer with other individuals or family members, you may want to remove any reference to your visit to this site. The following instructions tell you how to do just that.

Please note that computers are also available for your free use at the public libraries.

PC Windows - Internet Explorer

(Before closing the Browser)

  1. Select the Tools in the menu bar. Open the Internet Options Dialog Box and select the General Tab.

  2. In the Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files. Check the “Delete all offline content” and click OK.

  3. In the History, click Clear History.

  4. In Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Cookies and then OK.

  5. Click OK to exit the Internet Options Dialog Box.

 

Mac - Safari

(Before closing the Browser)

  1. Go to “History” tab on the main menu.

  2. Scroll down to “Clear History”.

PC Windows - Mozilla Firefox

(Before closing the Browser)

  1. Select the Tools in the menu bar, then select the Options.

  2. Click on the “Privacy” Option, with the picture of a padlock.

  3. Select the “History” tab. Click on “Clear Browsing History Now”.

  4. Select the “Cache” tab. Click on “Clear Cache Now”.

  5. Click “OK” to exit the Options dialogue box.

 

Mac - Mozilla Firefox

(Before closing the Browser)

  1. Go to “Preferences” under the “Firefox” tab in main menu.

  2. Click on “Privacy” tab then go to the “Private Data” section on the bottom.

  3. Click “Clear Now”.

PC Windows - All others

(right click the mouse on the Start at the bottom of the menu bar, select Explore)

  1. Select Windows in the C drive.

  2. Open Temporary Internet Files Folders. Select all the files inside this folder and delete.

  3. Open History folder (e.g. c:windowshistorytoday in Win 98), select all the files inside this folder and delete.

  4. Open Cookies folder (e.g. c:windowscookies in Win 98), select all the files inside this folder and delete.

  5. Disable the AutoComplete in the windows and/or browser options.

  6. After completing above steps, empty recycle bin.

 

Mac - Google Chrome

(Before closing the Browser)

  1. In the top right, click “More” then click “History”

  2. On the left, click “Clear Browsing Data”

  3. From the drop-down menu, select how much history you want to delete

  4. Check boxes on information you want Chrome to clear, include “Browsing History”

  5. Click “Clear Data”
